The second song I chose to learn on the ukulele is Riptide by Vance Joy. I selected this song because I wanted to find a beginner ukulele song that I could easily sing along too. Originally I was supposed to learn Hey soul sister by Train as my final song, but that ended up being my first song due to difficulty with my original first song choice. I am determined to have a growth mindset during the process of learning my second song. I got ahead of myself last time and ended up being frustrated because I bit off more than I could chew. Riptide is a beginner ukulele song and I have high hopes for myself especially in terms of the singing along aspect. The chord progressions for each verse of this song is Am, G, C. The strumming pattern for riptide is D D U D U; you strum the pattern for each chord once, except for C, where you do the strumming pattern twice. I spent a good week practicing the strumming pattern and my chord transitions. Despite practice, I am having a hard time with my Am to G transition; G is a consistent problem for me in terms of fingering. If I try to switch to G at a faster pace my fingers don’t end up on the right strings or sometimes even the right fret. My personal goal for myself over reading break is to continue practicing my chord transitions, placing extra attention on my Am to G transition.
