Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day so last night I decided to have it twice! Using my Auntie Shannon’s recipe, I made my two roommates and I french toast with a side of crispy bacon for dinner.  I have cooked french toast in the past, but this time was definitely a personal best. Making french toast is a great beginner cook breakfast because it only takes five minutes to prepare using four ingredients – that being cinnamon, egg, milk, and bread. Now for achieving the greatest, fluffiest french toast imaginable, you will want to find the thickest bread you can, I used Villaggio’s white bread but any brand will work. Learning from past experiences, I knew to add more cinnamon to the egg and milk mixture so the flavour would be more prominent. Additionally, I also reduced the amount of milk I put in so you would taste the cinnamon and the bread would not get as soggy. The first time I made french toast I left the bread in the egg, milk, and cinnamon mixture for too long causing the bread to get too soggy and take forever to cook in the pan. I learnt that you want to coat both sides of the bread entirely, but not keep the bread in the mixture for an extended period of time. Another tip is even if you are using a nonstick pan, I would still suggest putting a spoons worth of butter or margarine in first because it gives your french toast a perfectly golden-brown exterior. As far as toppings go, anything really goes with french toast, but this time I went with the classic strawberries, pinch of icing sugar and of course maple syrup. I like putting a pinch of icing sugar on the toast before I serve them because it helps build an appetizing presentation as well as it creates a contrast between the dark brown toast, red strawberries, and again the brown maple syrup. Overall my meal was a success, and a goal I have for the future is to learn how to make savoury french toast or even a Monte Cristo sandwich.
